Tonight was grand final night for my Touch Rugby League team ‘No Gary No’. Our opponents tonight were a team call ‘Incoll’, who are a team that we always have close games with, but have never lost to.
Unfortunately for us we had four players missing from our team, as they had already pre-booked a holiday to the USA. What that meant for the rest of us was fewer reserves, which in turn meant longer periods on the field without rest.
My Hidden Exercise Session to Stay Fit & Burn Fat
During tonight’s game due to the lack of reserves I had to stay on the field for longer pushing myself as hard as I could for 4-5 minute intervals before substituting off for only about 2 minutes. With each half lasting 20mins, it made for a hard HIIT session, but as per usual and it didn’t even feel like exercise because I was having fun.
At half time we led 3 – 1 and we were pretty exhausted. In the second half we came out and finished the game strong winning with a final score of 6 – 2.
This result meant that we went through the season undefeated, and now have won 3 out of the last 5 seasons.
Comparing these results with my previous results playing Touch Rugby League, it is obvious that the longer periods of activity, followed by the shorter rest periods led to my having a higher average heart rate and burning more calories.
Normally my heart rate averages in the high 150′s and I burn about 600kcals.
Give that this was the grand final, there is now about a 4 week break between seasons, as the organisers run a summer and a winter competition.
During the next 4 weeks I will ensure that I continue to perform an alternate activity during the same allotted time, just because my touch rugby league season has finished, it doesn’t mean that my training has to. Remember fitness is a lifestyle, not just something that you do every now and them.
