Increase Training Accountability Buy Gymboss Interval Timer

During my weekly dose you will often see me completing interval training sessions, whether it by Tabata, HIIT or a Boxing Circuit. During my interval training sessions I outline set times for different intervals. I got asked the other day by a mate, how I keep track of my time periods during the intervals.

Previously I had been using the stop watch function on my watch or the timer feature on my iPhone. Whilst both of these options worked for me, they also had their downsides.

When I was using my watch to track my time, I pretty much had to stop the exercise that I was doing to check my watch. When I was punching, I had to stop to look at my watch, when I was doing sprints I pretty much had to slow down to a jog to check my watch, I could go on but you get the drift.

My other option was the timer function on my iPhone. This resolved a lot of the problems that I had when using my watch, but it presented it’s own set of problems. Whilst I didn’t have to stop to look at my iPhone to know when time was up (as it sounded an alert), I was pretrified of dropping it or as I did many times, sweat on it.

My other massive problem with the iPhone is the only way to start the timer is by your skin touching the screen. When you are about to do a working set doing a boxing circuit, you actually have to start with one glove off, in order to be able to start the timer. This can be a bit of a pain especially when your sweaty and exhausted.

So What Do I Use Now?

About 4 weeks ago I got myself a Gymboss Interval Timer, and I love it.

What is a Gymboss Interval Timer?

The Gymboss Interval Timer is a simple product that tells you how long to work and how long to rest and it does that extremely well. All you need to do is setup the timer for your workout, turn it on and let it direct what you do.  The Gymboss Interval Timer has a function to set two timers, meaning one interval timer tracks your work interval, the other tracks your rest interval.

As you can see from the picture the Gymboss Interval Timer comes in a variety of colours, it’s small and it’s lightweight.

Whilst the device itself is small, comes with a belt clip and has a large screen, that is easy to read.  It’s water and shock resistant and is backed by a 1 year 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Programming the Gymboss Interval Timer is a breeze. It has three buttons that are used to program it and operate it and comes with very easy to follow instructions. I managed to figure it out in around 2 minutes. If you can’t figure out the written instructions they are youtube videos available to show you how to set it up.

Why Buy GymBoss Interval Timer?

The Gymboss Interval Timer has numerous features including:

  • Set one or two different time intervals from 2 seconds to 100 minutes
  • Auto keep repeating through the intervals
  • Acts manually as countdown timer
  • Set alarms by beep, vibration, or both
  • Set alarm duration of 1, 5, or 10 seconds
  • Use as a stop watch

Personally I love my Gymboss Interval Timer and recommend you buy one if your looking for an interval timer. I find that it makes me accountable for work and rest intervals.

There is no more slowing down to look at my watch, or miscalculation of rest periods. Once you press start, you work until you hear the alarm and the rest until you hear the next alarm.

Gymboss Where to Buy?

I have found the Gymboss Interval Timer to be great value for money at only $19.95 and an awesome tool to have when completing any HIIT training session.

To purchase one all you need to do is click on one of the links in this article or one of the advertising banners on the site. Once you click, you will be taken through to the purchase page.

The reason for this post is to let you know that I am officially endorsing the Gymboss Interval Timer, which means, when you click on a link or advertisment to buy Gymboss Interval Timer on my site, I may receive a commission.

This association with the Gymboss Interval Timer is a way that I can cover any costs associated with running the site, however I only do so as I genuniely believe in the product and have used it personally for a period of time.

If you have read my site for long enough you know that I would never promote something I didn’t believe in. I wouldn’t promote or endorse a bullshit product, just to make a quick buck. There is enough sites around like that already.

  1. Niko,

Mate just a question about the Gymboss – for xfit sessions such as the 30mins of 5pullups/10pushups and 15 squats, can it be programmed to beep every minute and if so up to how many minutes? (If you wanted to do that session for a longer period than 30mins)

    • Brad,
The Gymboss Interval Timer can be programmed for up to 99 intervals, so in theory you could do a 99 minute workout. I did the exact workout you are talking about last week. It’s a great session, I think they call it Chelsea! If you have any more questions let me know.

  2. I use my iphone for my timer but to be honest, it’s been a pain in the butt! I’m going to check one of these bad boys out. Thanks!

    • No worries Brad. I got sick of trying to start the timer on my iphone when I have boxing mitts on, that’s when I stumbled upon the gymboss. Wish I had bought on years ago.

  3. I still use my iPhone as my timer, but I have thought about looking for a better timer as of late. Like you mention in the article, iPhones are really fragile and the last thing I want to do is drop it.

I also used to do a lot of heavy bag work, so I know what you’re talking about with having to take the boxing gloves off. I used to do 3 minute work, 1 minute rest intervals, so having a timer is pivotal for those types of sessions. But taking the gloves on and off can be a bit of a hassle.

    • Robert,
When boxing I bet you have even tried to master the art of starting and stopping your iPhone by using your elbow. The GymBoss is the way to go for intervals, especially boxing.

  4. Like others I use a Tabata timer app on my iPhone, or the timer function on my Garmin HRM.

I’ve heard great things about GymBoss, but haven’t had a chance to try one out.

    • Troy,
For me the decision to buy a GymBoss came down to convenience and durability. The GymBoss is so easy to use, and unlike my iPhone, I don’t freak out when I drop it.
