The Fastest Way to Get a Flat Stomach in Just 4 Easy Steps

One of the most common questions that I get asked is “What is the fastest way to get a flat stomach?” As a result I decided to share my 4 easy ways to get a flat stomach.

Most people are embarrassed about having a flabby stomach, but the embarrassment should be the least of your concerns. Carrying extra weight around tummy can increase you risk of diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

If you are carrying a bit of extra flab around your mid-section, don’t stress. Thankfully, you don’t need a complicated diet, weight loss pills or expensive shakes to shrink your tummy. Stomach fat is stubborn, but it is no match for proper hydration, exercise, nutrition and the right mental attitude.

Step 1: The Power of the Mind

Your mind set will play a huge role in your ability to lose weight. In order to reach your goals you must be committed and have a genuine belief that you have what it takes. If you are not 100% committed, or are negative in your approach in any way, you will find it easier to give up when the going gets tough.

My advice is don’t approach approach losing weight from your stomach as an exercise in getting abs. Your reasons for wanting to rid yourself of tummy fat should be based around living a healthy lifestyle, feeling energized every single day.

Think of you fat burning journey as a change in lifestyle rather than a diet. Instead of focusing on diet, focus of healthy living. Start with small changes, as time passes these small changes will become permanent changes to your lifestyle.

As you make these small changes, you’ll start to gain momentum and it will make it easier to overcome any negative feelings that my pop up from time to time.

Step 2: You Are What You Eat

Whilst this is an old saying it is a key consideration when looking for a way to get a flat stomach. To put it simply if you eat like crap, you will look and feel like crap, no matter how much you exercise.

Eating a nutritious healthy diet will help your body burn stomach fat effectively as it will keep you metabolism operating at an optimum level. Starving yourself if not the way to get a flat stomach.

Your eating plan must consist of essentail carbohydrates (yes carbs!), protein, healthy fat , vitamins and minerals. Adequate amounts of whole foods like lean meat, poultry, fruit, vegetables, raw nuts, legumes, seeds, beans and eggs need to be included in your eating plan for it to be nutritious.

Whilst I think it is important to know how many calories your body needs to lose weight , it is not essential to measure your calories to start with (remember I said start with small steps).

Instead focus on eating the right foods, and sticking to reasonable portion sizes. Avoid processed food as much as you can. If you need a chemistry degree to interpret the ingredients of something you are about to eat, avoid it like the plague.

If you do this you will lose belly fat without ever counting a single calorie.

Step 3: The Way to Get a Flat Stomach is by Drinking This!

However, eventually your body will become accustomed to the reduced amount of calories and you will stop burning stomach fat. Some people refer to this as a sticking point or plateau.

To push past this sticking point, you need to add exercise into the mix.

By exercise I don’t mean sit-ups, crunches or any other variation of ab-specific exercises. This line of thought is referred to as Spot Reduction and it is simply a myth perpetuated by slick marketers trying to get you to buy the next Ab Blaster 3000 machine.

All these exercises will do is tone your abdominal muscles. Any muscle tone you achieve will still be hidden underneath the flab.

The only way to get a flat stomach is to burn the fat off.

Look at combining 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to intense exercise 3 to 4 times per week with correct nutrition. If you do this the fat on your stomach will melt away.

If you are totally out of shape and that seems like too much activity to start with, start off with what you can handle. Exercising for 5 to 10 minutes a few times a week is a good starting point. Start increasing you session times as your fitness improves.

As well as exercising, make sure you look at activities you can incorporate into your everyday life, that will burn more calories without exercising.

The important thing to remember is start by taking smaller steps. This is a lifestyle change not a 12 week challenge. You might want to start by drinking more water, eliminating processed food out of you diet and exercising 3 times per week.

Once you get used to these changes, add in some other changes. Before you know it those small changes will become a habit. Add enough of these small changes together and you will have made a big change in your lifestyle, without feeling like you have made a drastic change.

  1. For me, when I quit sodas having a flat stomach was much more achievable. It’s amazing how great water is, it really flushes out your system and keeps you healthy. Everyone can have a flat stomach if they want!

      Water is really under rated as a weight loss tool and quitting soda is essential if you want a flat stomach.

      • Is sparkling water OK? OK, call me a snob, but I can drink so much more sparkling water (ie just make the recommended dosage) than tap/still water…

  2. Great advice on weight loss. I don’t think the problem people have with losing weight is because they don’t know how to lose weight, it is because they can’t fight the craving to eat junk food. I have found that by following the paleo diet I reduce my cravings to eat junk food because all the foods I eat are low glycemic index foods which don’t raise my insulin level.

    • Wayne, junk food craving is a weakness for most people trying to lose weight. I agree with your outlook, the paleo diet is a fantasic appraoch to nutirition. How long have you been following the paleo diet?


  3. I have been on the paleo diet for over a year and a half.

  4. What if you are already doing all that and you still have a belly. I walk 3 miles a day 3 days a week, I do zumba 4 days a week. Due to medical reasons I am on a gluten free diet, and because loosing weight has been really hard I have been limiting all carbs that are gluten free. I still have a,belly it is smaller but it is NOT GONE. It is hard to stay positive, I have been doing this for 3 years.
